The Fire Warden course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge to serve effectively as a Warden within an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO). This course adheres to the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 and the Australian Standard (AS) 3745:2010 for emergency planning in facilities. Training and Assessment is delivered on behalf of ABC First Aid RTO 3399.

Our Fire Warden course is nationally recognised and designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to effectively respond to fire emergencies in the workplace. The course emphasizes practical, hands-on training and includes a variety of real-life scenarios to ensure participants are well-prepared for actual emergency situations.

Throughout the course, participants will engage in interactive exercises and simulations, gaining valuable experience in handling emergencies. They will learn essential skills for managing fire-related incidents, coordinating evacuations, and implementing safety protocols, all of which are crucial for maintaining a safe work environment.

By completing this course, individuals will not only receive formal certification but also develop the confidence and expertise needed to act decisively and efficiently in fire emergencies.

Fire Warden training is provided to employees responsible for performing fire safety checks and evacuations in any workplace, office or manufacturing environment. If you are unsure whether your workplace qualifies, please speak to your employer or check WorkSafe Australia for more information.

This course can also be taken by concerned persons to improve their own at-home fire evacuation planning.

Course Duration

Face-to-face duration is up to 5 hours. Pre-course learning is required (up to 2 hours online). For paper-based delivery: up to 7 hours face-to-face.

Course Content

Practical Tasks – Physical Demonstrations:

  • Conduct pre-emergency planning
  • Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans
  • Function effectively as a member of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) during a fire emergency

Documentation – Participants are required to complete the following to the specified standards:

  • Emergency equipment fault log
  • Emergency evacuation incident and debrief form
  • Facility emergency plan (extract)
  • Incident report

Theory Assessment:

  • A written assessment comprising multiple-choice questions

 

Participants will acquire comprehensive knowledge of emergency preparedness and understand human behavior during crises, enabling them to assess risks and plan effectively for various workplace emergencies.

The course will cover:

  • Workplace reporting procedures
  • Emergency response actions, including raising the alarm
  • Different types of workplace emergency responses
  • Fire fundamentals, including the fire triangle and fire classes
  • Fire extinguisher training, covering types of extinguishers, maintenance, inspections, practical simulations, and optional spill kit usage
  • The emergency management plan, including the roles and responsibilities within the emergency control organization
  • Facilitating the emergency management plan
  • Coordination of evacuations
  • Post-evacuation activities
  • Practical evacuation exercises

Suitable for individuals, workplaces of all sizes, and volunteer and community-based groups.
Any adult (aged 18+) can attend.
There are no prerequisites for this course.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements
Participants will require suitable LLN skills to complete the following tasks/skills:

  • Read information from a PowerPoint, Manual and whiteboard.
  • Listen and understand verbal information delivered by an English-speaking qualified fire safety trainer.
Your First Aid Trainer delivers this course in partnership with ABC Licence Training (RTO Code 3399). Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment issued by ABC Licence Training.

Statement of Attainment in the following units of competency:

Certification Validity
There is no renewal recommendation set by the industry for this course. However, regular refresher training is recommended to maintain competency.
